There are many everyday items that you can use in your spiritual practice, they’re likely already things you have at home! These simple objects can help you feel more connected, grounded, and spiritually aligned without needing anything too fancy or expensive. Here’s a list of common items and how they can be used.
Candles can be found anywhere from most stores to maybe already being in your home. Lighting candles is a powerful way to set intentions, honor spirits or ancestors, or create a sacred space. You can use different colors for different purposes like white for clarity, pink for love, black for protection, ect.
Most households will also have salt, which can be used for cleansing and protection. You can do this by sprinkling it at doorways or windowsills to ward off negative energy, or even by adding it to your bathwater for a spiritual detox.
Mirrors are already in most bathrooms and can be used for reflecting, getting clarity, and protection. This can be done by using it as a scrying tool for meditation, or by placing it facing a window to reflect negativity out of your space.
The regular bowls and cups in your cabinet can be used for offerings, holding water, herbs, or crystals. It can also be used for creating moon water, blessing water, or used as part of altar rituals. Just be aware when using your dish-ware if it can be ruined by what you are doing or if you would like to keep them separate from your normal food and drink ones, just in case.
Your Jewelry can be enchanted to be worn for different purposes like protection, energy amplification, or as an intention holder or attractor. This can be done by a simple cleanse and then you'll charge your pieces with the chosen intentions, and then they are ready to be worn daily. It's typically recommended to re-cleanse weekly or daily depending on the type of environments you're in.
Essential oils, perfumes, or colognes can be used for energy cleansing, glamour magic, mood shifting, and intention setting. This can be done by setting your intentions with your choice of oil or spray through meditation and affirming with them. You can use them by applying to pulse points, diffusing, or anointing candles and tools. Only use essential oil with the candles and tools and if you are going to do anything with candles and heat, remember to be aware of flammability.
Journals or notebooks can be used for manifestation, gratitude, dream recording, or shadow work. You can do this by writing down affirmations, intentions, or spiritual reflections.
Herbs and spices that are used in cooking can also be used for cleansing, abundance, love, and protection spells. An example of this could be using cinnamon for abundance, rosemary for purification, or basil for love and protection.
Feathers can be used for energy clearing and connecting to spirits or air elements. They are typically used for wafting and distributing smoke during smudging and can be placed on your altar if you have one.
Water can be used for emotional healing, cleansing, and intuition. You can collect rainwater, ocean water, or moon water for rituals or blessings. For clarification, moon water is water that is sat out under the moon to absorb its energy, you can collect sun water in the same way by letting the water sit under the sun, and celestial water is water that sits out under both the sun and the moon.
Bells or chimes can be used in sound clearing and shifting energy. You can do this by ringing them in corners of a room or at the start or end of a spiritual session. If you're lucky you might already have some chimes hanging outside!
Clothing or fabric can be used to wrap sacred items, create altar cloths, or just simply be worn with intention. This can be done by choosing colors and textures that match the energy you want to work with.
Sticks and stones can be used as natural tools for grounding, protection, or creating a sacred space. All you have to do for this is to go outside and gather your resources respectfully from nature and use them in your rituals or altars. It is always good to ask permission from spirit so remember to ask and use your intuition to see if it feels okay to collect your items.
Most of these things can be found in a typical household as things you already own or are outside of it or possibly in dollar stores for very cheap. Ultimately, you don’t need a lot of tools to connect to your spiritually, just a little intention and creativity. The magic is already within you, these everyday items simply help you focus more and direct your energy.
