Citrine is a mineral that is usually yellow in color. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. This yellow stone is a type of quartz that has been heated (naturally or artificially) so that it becomes yellow in color. Citrine is usually found in Brazil, Africa, and the United States. It can also be found in Madagascar, Mexico, Spain, France, Russia and even Scotland.
Citrine is a silicon dioxide mineral (a form of quartz) in the trigonal system. The yellow in it is usually derived from iron and can vary from a very pale, almost invisible yellow to a deep orange. Some Citrine even looks amber in color!
Named after the word “citron” in French meaning lemon, this beautifully transparent crystal was used as a gem in Greece clear back to 300 B.C. In the first and second centuries it was frequently used in both Greece and Rome, commonly appearing as cabochon ring gemstones.
Unfortunately most of the “Citrine” on the market today is actually irradiated (heat treated) amethyst. A characteristic giveaway of this is if the Citrine is darker orange in color with an almost abrupt fade to more opaque white at its “root.” Truly natural Citrine is more pale yellow in color and aligns with the Solar Plexus as do other yellow stones.
Natural Citrine’s metaphysical uses include assisting with dreams, overcoming fear and helping to maintain mental clarity. Citrine is a stone of success and prosperity. It promotes confidence, ambition and personal power. This stone is suitable for businessmen, astrologers, lawyers, entrepreneurs or anyone seeking success in the outside world.
A great manifestation stone, Citrine also pairs well with Pyrite for abundance and prosperity crystal grids. Citrine in particular aids with manifestation by strengthening your intention, offering motivation and internalizing new concepts. Citrine also aids with overcoming adversity and helping to make decisions in difficult circumstances. It can help you overcome feelings that you’re not enough or that you don’t deserve abundance.
Citrine is a Solar Plexus (3rd) Chakra stone that also helps with personal willpower, mental clarity and creativity. It’s known as the “creativity stone” because of its natural inclination to energize happiness. Happy, stress-free people tend to be naturally more creative as they don’t hold themselves as much to impossible standards. In fact, we love Citrine so much we created a t-shirt exclusively to showcase it… “If you’re happy and you know it, show me your Citrine!”
Found in clusters, as single points, as tumbles and cut gemstones, this versatile crystal invokes the imagination in a unique way that powers through doubt and blocks to abundance and prosperity with your ideas. Even Einstein, said, “Imagination is more important than Knowledge” and we would like to consider him pretty smart.
All power and ability to make ideas a reality comes from the imagination and Citrine is the ideal stone to help manifest your ideas from the ether into the present reality. Citrine is said to be excellent for attracting positive influences and creative energy into one's life. It is a powerful stone of ambition, giving its wearer a feeling of inner strength as well as the confidence to turn their desires into reality.
